• The facial nerve passes through the petrous temporal bone, internal auditory meatus, facial canal, stylomastoid foramen, and then the parotid gland.
• The nervus intermedius exits the cranial cavity at the Internal auditory meatus, and joins with the motor root of the facial nerve at the geniculate ganglion.
• It had a short face and a delicate premaxilla with only one or two incisors, and the lateral rim of the internal auditory meatus was lengthened towards the brain case which formed a longitudinal ridge.
• The internal auditory meatus provides a passage through which the vestibulocochlear nerve, the facial nerve, and the labyrinthine artery ( an internal auditory branch of the basilar artery ) can pass from inside the skull to structures of the inner ear and face.
• Near the center is a large orifice, the internal acoustic opening, the size of which varies considerably; its margins are smooth and rounded, and it leads into the internal auditory meatus a short canal, about 1 cm . in length, which runs lateralward.
